Things don’t always go as planned in life, love, or—as is the case with Cayla and Patrick—a proposal. Patrick had plans to propose to Cayla one weekend, but his clever soon-to-be fiancée caught his hints and pieced his plans together. Instead of the traditional proposal, this became one that was just as spontaneous and “in-the-moment” as this couple is. As Cayla describes the night: “He proposed one night at our apartment…We were ‘arguing’ over who loved each other more, and the next thing I knew he was down on his knee.”
The special day was a whirlwind of activity from sunrise to sunset. As Cayla remembers it: “The girls got to the venue around 8:00 am to start hair and makeup. We had the best time getting ready. I’m not sure when the guys arrive, but I saw Patrick around 4:00 that afternoon. We took pictures and all that fun stuff”.
Their sunny outdoor ceremony, held at Douglas Manor in Shelby County , Alabama. Her stunning gown came from David’s Bridal, the bridesmaids’ lavender gowns came from Alfred Angelo, and the mens’ gray tuxedos came from Mr. Burch’s. These colors against the outdoor greenery, created a color scheme that was subtle and dreamy. Cayla described it as the “best ten minutes ever”.
After the ceremony, the wedding party whirled over the reception to celebrate by eating food catered by Happy Catering, diving into a cake designed by Barb’s Cakes, and dancing the night away to Deputy 5. As Cayla puts it, “It was the most perfect day! I wish that I could relive it over and over!”
At the end of the reception, the couple departed through a sparkler exit and headed off to Exellence Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic, for their honeymoon. There they did some snorkeling, horseback riding on the beach, and celebrated the new path they were embarking in their lives.
What advice does Cayla have to give for new brides?
“So cliché, but really soak in every moment of the day. It is one huge whirlwind and it goes by so fast. Look around a lot and take in every minute.”
